Keeping the Camp Vibes Going Through Shoulder Season

Here’s a myth our Mythbusting friends probably want to bust: Camping season ends in August.

Just because fall is just around the corner doesn’t mean you can’t keep camping a while longer! Hook up the RV, pack up the pups, and hit the road to keep the camp vibes going through shoulder season. Here are a few tips, tricks, and destinations to get you started.

Find Your Wildhood in Canada

You don’t need to go to the U.S. to have a good time RVing in fall and winter. You can bring back Wildhood when the snow flies in Canada, too! There’s lots of family fun to find on the road. Here are some of our favourite winter festivals worth checking out in Canada!

There are so many ways to find your winter wonder wildhood! Don’t forget to pack your winter essentials if you plan on camping in the snow.

Vancouver Island is a great place for RVers to check out in the fall and winter. The lucky islanders rarely see more than a few days of light snow. The mild climate means plenty of campgrounds are open year-round.

If you’re touring Vancouver Island this fall or winter, here are some must-see spots to add to your list.

Fall on the island can be a little rainy. Good thing we have solutions for that, too: rainy day activities!

Plan Your Getaway
When Canada starts to cool, the south is still warm. You could drive across the border to chase the last rays of summer to our southern neighbours. If you’ve never driven on such a long road trip, we have some tips for planning an extended road trip. We also have a few tips for planning a road trip to the U.S.

And, if you’re going to bring your pets on your road trip to the U.S., we even have a few tips to make travelling across the border with Spot easy for you. We’re full of tips!

Need some ideas? There are plenty of places to explore in the south. One of our favourite trips passes through both the red rocks of Utah and Arizona.

Or you could drive even farther—all the way to Mexico

Indulge in Cozy Comforts

There’s nothing better than ooey-gooey comfort treats when it’s a little chilly around the fire. And you know we love cozy one-pot camping recipes, too!

Another way to stay warm is to check out a Canadian winery* somewhere along your route! These wineries know how to keep RVers warm all through autumn.
Wherever you go and whatever you do, don’t forget to pack the essentials for your next RV trip!

If you do plan on parking your RV before the snow covers Canada for another winter, make sure to properly winterize your RV.

Camping is all about unscheduling and unwinding. Who says you can’t do that with a few more layers of clothing to bundle up and keep warm in shoulder season?
And remember… #RVersKnow: Be a good neighbour wherever you go!

* Of course, this goes without saying, but just in case: Drink Responsibly. Don’t drive and drive.
