Wapta Falls

Wapta Falls is a must do at Yolo National Park! An easy, forested trail leads to the beautiful 30-metre tall waterfall. Keep your eyes peeled for waterbirds, beavers and wolf tracks on this 4.6 km (round trip) trail. It is the largest waterfall on the Kicking Horse River.

Kicking Horse Campground

Kicking Horse Campground is our recommended spot for RVers in Yolo; it is open mid-May through mid-October. The campground offers 88 riverside sites with mature trees and nice views. All sites are first-come, first-served, and all the campgrounds in Yolo are non-serviced. However, Kicking Horse does have flush toilets, showers and a dump station. Other amenities are handicapped accessibility, group kitchen, picnic shelter, firepits, a playground, trails and fishing nearby.

Icefields Parkway

Heading north from Yolo National Park, you’ll be on what is called the Icefields Parkway, an incredibly scenic drive (232 km) connecting Lake Louise with Jasper, Alberta. Be sure to safely pull off the road before oogling the glaciers, waterfalls, rock spires, and emerald lakes that you will see. Vehicle pull-offs, hiking and walking paths are frequent. You’ll also find picnic tables, restrooms, gas station, general store, and motels along the way. The parkway is open year-round but no road maintenance November through April. Tip: Don’t skip Bow Lake! A small, picturesque lake right by the road… perfect for picnicking and hiking.

The Columbia Icefields

Driving along the Icefields Parkway, you will be able to see parts of the “Columbia Icefields” – the biggest icefield in the Rocky Mountains. It “feeds” six large glaciers and covers 125 square miles. Athabasca Glacier is one of the six, and it is the most visited glacier in North America because it’s easy to get to. The Icefield Interpretive Centre and paid tours are nearby Athabasca, and definitely recommended as a stop on your road trip.
