Planning a Kelowna RV road trip is one of the best ways to experience British Columbia’s premier wine region at your own relaxed pace. From wine tasting along ancient volcanic slopes and cycling historic mountain trestles to cruising downtown waterfront promenades, this 3-day itinerary combines boutique luxury with effortless outdoor adventure. Here is how to build an unforgettable weekend exploring Kelowna in an RV.
Starting a day at Quails’ Gate sets the mood for the whole trip. Situated on the extinct volcanic slopes of Mount Boucherie in West Kelowna, the Stewart family has been growing grapes on this land since 1961. The vineyard rows run straight down toward Okanagan Lake, creating a view that comfortably rivals any classic winemaking region in the world.
Take time to walk through the vines before heading into the tasting room to sample their Pinot Noir or Chardonnay. If you arrive early, grab a fresh coffee and pastry from their market shop to enjoy on the lawn while the morning mist clears off the water.
Where to Camp Nearby:
Bear Creek Provincial Park: Located just 15 minutes north along Westside Road, this spot offers 143 campsites right on Okanagan Lake with electrical hookups, shaded beach loops, and canyon trails.
A short drive up into the hills shifts the scenery from vineyard terraces to the historic engineering of the Kettle Valley Railway. Suspended 4,200 feet above the canyon floor, this stretch of trail features 18 wooden trestle bridges and two stone tunnels hand-carved in the early 1900s.
You can rent a bike at the main station or simply walk along the wide gravel trail. Crossing these massive timber structures gives you sweeping views across the entire valley, surrounded by fresh mountain air and pine forest.
Tracing the eastern side of the lake brings you to CedarCreek. Built from regional fieldstone and reclaimed barn wood, the estate carries a warm, relaxed elegance that feels a world away from daily routines.
Lunch at their site restaurant, Homeblock, is a highlight of the route. Executive Chef Neil Taylor cooks over an open wood-fired grill fueled by seasoned wine barrel staves and local orchard wood. The menu changes with the daily harvest, paired alongside CedarCreek’s organic wines. Sitting out on the covered terrace enjoying a slow meal overlooking the water is about as good as a Canadian summer gets.
Head into downtown Kelowna for an unhurried afternoon along the water. The Downtown Waterfront Promenade features a wide, paved multi-use path running alongside a wooden boardwalk with railing right at the lake’s edge.
Rent an e-bike near the marina at Lakefront Sports Centre and hop directly onto the promenade path. The trail runs parallel to lush, tree-shaded park lawns and open lake views, leading you past City Park.
Cruising north along the promenade brings you right into Waterfront Park and Tugboat Beach, a quiet, curved sandy cove tucked behind manicured park lawns.
It is one of the best spots in town to slow things down. You can kick off your shoes for a swim in the lake, lay out a towel on the sand, or grab an ice cream and watch sailboats drift into the marina.
To cap off your weekend, head up into the rolling hills of East Kelowna to tee off at Black Mountain Golf Club. Framed by steep cliffs and expansive valley views, this 18-hole championship course offers a fun, dynamic layout that follows the natural contours of the mountain landscape.
The highlight of the round comes at the signature 17th hole, featuring a dramatic island green surrounded by water. It is a memorable shot whether you hit the green or end up taking a drop.
After finishing your round, head over to the outdoor terrace at The Grill at Black Mountain. Grabbing a cold local craft beer and an appetizer on the patio while watching the late sun illuminate the fairways below is the ideal way to round out the afternoon before calling it a night.
