Top Tips for Keeping Your Load Light: Packing for Your Next RV Trip

clock 6 MINUTES READ

Are you getting excited for camping season? It’s nearly time to hit the road! After planning the perfect RV vacation with the family, all that’s left to do is pack. If you’re new to RVing, the smaller footprint might make packing feel a bit daunting at first, so we have a few quick tips to help make things easier for you!

Consider the Trip

Are you booked for a weekend getaway or an extended road trip? What’s the weather like where you’re going? When are you heading out? Will you need warm clothes or lots of beach towels? Are you meeting up with other families or road-tripping solo? All these factors change the essentials you need to pack.

Make a List

New to camping? Step 1: Make a list of all the gear you’re going to need. If you’re not sure where to start, browse our comprehensive packing list! It covers everything from clothing to equipment, hygiene to pets, and more.

Remember the Essentials

You want to achieve the perfect balance of preparedness and packing light, so just pack the essentials. Important documents (for pets, kids, medications, etc.) are must-haves, while you can pick up any forgotten items along the way (toiletries, condiments, rain jackets, etc.). Don’t worry about what you might be forgetting – as long as all the important things are in the vehicle.

Pack for Puppy

Camping with our four-legged friends is so much fun! What do you need to pack for your pup before you hit the road? Obviously, bowls and food are the top of the list, but have you considered other items that make life in the RV more comfortable for everyone? For example: puppy bug spray, bottled water and extra towels are a must if your dog likes to roam.

Pro tip: Introduce your dog to the RV before pulling out of the driveway if it’s your dog’s first road trip. You want your pup to feel at home!

Gather the Gadgets

While none of these items are necessary, some tech gadgets can make life easier on the road. Take your pick of portable tools and fun tech toys like the ones we’ve listed in this roundup on the blog.

Prep Your Snacks

Keep your passengers happy with lots of tasty road trip snacks! We have a few ideas for snacks that are a little more fun than the traditional granola bars and trail mix. We share heaps of camping meal ideas in the Wildhood Recipe Club on Facebook.

Save Storage Space

Save a little storage space for anything you buy while on your trip. You may realize that you need another piece of equipment after you set out or hit up the local shops at your destination. Regardless of the plan, remember to leave a bit of extra space just in case.

You’ll be planning your RV trip like a pro in no time!
