Fire Roasted Pumpkin Seed Recipe: A Must-Try Fall RVing Treat!

A bowl of pumpkin seeds placed on a table with seasonings, tobasco sauce, and a jackolantern
2 Min Read October 22, 2024
As we roll into fall and Halloween begins to sneak up on us, it’s the perfect time to embrace all things pumpkin! Fall RVer’s know, carving pumpkins is a cherished tradition, and let’s face it—there’s no better way to celebrate the spooky season! But wait—before you toss those pumpkin seeds in the compost, let’s whip up something tasty. We’re talking about fire roasted pumpkin seeds! Trust us, these little crunchy delights are the perfect snack for your fall adventures.

three carved pumpkins sitting outside the door and entry to an RV with two pots of flowers on either side.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of pumpkin seeds
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons of Tabasco sauce (or more if you like it spicy!)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons of smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Get That Fire Going: Start up your campfire or preheat your RV oven to 350°F (175°C). However, if you really want the smokey ‘fire roasted’ touch, we highly recommend roasting our seeds over an open flame!
  2. Start Carving: After you’ve carved your pumpkins (which will also look great lighting up your campsite at night), scoop out the seeds and give them a good rinse under cold water to ditch the pumpkin guts. Then, dry them off with a paper towel.
  3. ‘Tis the Season: In a mixing bowl, toss your cleaned and dried pumpkin seeds with olive oil and Tabasco sauce. Sprinkle in garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Get in there with your hands and mix until everything is coated and ready to rock.
  4. Roast Time: Spread the seeds out on a fire safe baking sheet or place them in a foil pouch for roasting over the campfire.
  5. Cook It Up: Pop them in the oven or hold them over the fire for about 15-20 minutes. Give them a little stir now and then, keeping an eye on them so they don’t burn. You want them golden brown and crunchy. The best way to know if they’re done is to give them a little taste test!
  6. Cool and Crunch: Once they’re roasted to perfection, let the seeds cool for a minute. Then, grab a handful and enjoy the fruits of your labor while sharing stories around the fire.
