Stories From the Road Rustic Minimalist Paradise

Join Anne on a trip into the Laurentian Mountains outside Montreal to discover a secret lake all to themselves.

We took a long hike under the rain to find a magnificent waterfall that we could bathe in. We swam in the sandy bottom lake. We played with my standup paddle board. We built fires, We ate meals prepared on the propane stove inside the Cricket. And used the running water in the sink to clean everything.

1. How was your trip?! Looked like you had a great trip even though the weather was a bit spotty at times.

What an amazing trip I had! I would’ve gladly stayed longer if city life didn’t need to be attended to. Of course, this Summer being unpredictable with wildly changing weather and almost tropical downpours, we were a little apprehensive, but decided to chill out no matter what and brought books, blankets and cushions to feel extra comfy. That worked so well! While we safely slept or read in our pod, poor fellow campers were being soaked inside out in their tent.

There are no words to explain how it feels to wake up early before everyone and be right in the middle of such beautiful, vibrant nature.

Have. To. Do. That. More. Often.

2. What was the best part?

Every part!!

OK, if I have to choose, it is perhaps the long talks around the campfire. And the long silences around the campfire.

3. Anything unexpected happen?

Lot’s!!! I bumped in to my nephew and his son, and my niece, her husband and their 2 kids! You have to understand this a very remote and rustic campground. What are the odds? So we shared gear and spent time together….and got to borrow pots and pans because my expert co-camper, the one in charge of making sure we had everything we needed forgot the cooking utensils.

4. Did you find ‘wildhood’?

No doubt!

The compactness of the Cricket allowed us to stay in a very rustic campground. No trailer parks, No generator hums. No electricity, no running water, no shower.

We could access the site from a very narrow and winding road that brought us smack on the beautiful, pristine lake. Paradise!

Hybrid Trailer

The hybrid travel trailer is a cross between a hard-sided travel trailer and a tent camping trailer with ends that pull out to offer more sleeping room. It's lighter, often more affordable and can be towed by many popular family vehicles like mini-vans or SUVs.
